Lecture description:

Leo Marmol engaged the audience with his approach to the historic preservation of modern architecture, including the firm’s award-winning adaptive reuse and renovation of buildings by Richard Neutra, John Lautner, and Minoru Yamasaki. He discussed his approach to conservation as not merely the preservation of material but of the important issue of maintaining the integrity of the original design intent. Marmol also detailed the realities, challenges, and triumphs of Marmol-Radziner’s preservation work.

Leo Marmol, FAIA, is Managing Partner of the architect-led design-build practice Marmol Radziner, founded in 1989 with Ron Radziner, FAIA. Based in Los Angeles with offices in San Francisco and New York City, Marmol Radziner takes an innovative design approach to residential and commercial architecture, construction, interior design, landscape design, and the restoration of historic modern buildings. Leo serves on the Board of Trustees of the Palm Springs Art Museum and the Board of Advisors of the UCLA Lab School. Leo received his Bachelor of Architecture with a Minor in Philosophy from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, California.
