About Us
The Department of Family and Community Medicine (DFCM) was founded with a mission to provide the best possible care to our patients and to train an outstanding new generation of family physicians.
To do this successfully, it fundamentally requires dismantling the biases and injustices impacting our teams, patients, and the communities we serve. Health cannot be optimized while members of our community are impacted by racism and discrimination. Addressing these, intentionally and explicitly, must be and is part of our mission.
As a department, we have committed to continuous self-development and action towards justice, anti-racism and health equity. We stand and redouble our efforts in support of equality, inclusion and diversity. And we pledge to engage in this work throughout our various pillars of the department: Clinical Practice, Education, Research and Scholarship, and Community Medicine and Service.
As we continue in our efforts to further align our actions with our mission, and to effect change in our department, throughout the institution, and within our greater Philadelphia community, we look forward to listening and learning. We invite members and guests of our department to share thoughts, comments, concerns or questions with us. Please feel free to reach us at DFCM Diversity.
