Fire Safety
To protect the safety of the community, the Office of Residential Life strictly enforces all fire safety policies located in our Residence Life Policies. Any violation of the policies below will result in a referral to the Community Standards process.
Residents and guests must evacuate the building whenever a fire alarm sounds, including during our annual fire drills. When the fire alarm sounds, follow RACE:
- R: rescue anyone who is in immediate danger
- A: alarm by pulling the closest fire alarm pull station and call Public Safety at (215) 951-2999 at East Falls, or (215) 955-8888 at Center City.
- C: confine the fire and smoke by closing doors.
- E: evacuate away from the smoke and heat and exit the building immediately.
If you have a clear path to escape and the fire is small, extinguish the fire using a Fire Extinguisher and PASS:
- P: pull the pin
- A: aim the nozzle at the base of the fire
- S: squeeze the handle of the fire extinguisher
- S: sweep side-to-side with the nozzle until the fires is out or the extinguisher stops
Any resident who fails to leave when the fire alarm is engaged will be referred to the Community Standards process and may also be subject to fines and arrest. Additionally, the City of Philadelphia may fine, in excess of $500, anyone found responsible for initiating a false fire alarm.
