Objectives & Philosophy
The objective of our Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship program is two-fold:
- To train physicians in the subspecialty of child and adolescent psychiatry.
- To aid the fellow in their development into an independent practitioner with strong clinical competencies, and a caring, empathetic attitude.
Additionally, our program trains fellows who want to be future academicians; in turn, this means our program develops leaders who will shape the future of child and adolescent psychiatry. While focusing on training competent, expert, and caring child and adolescent psychiatrists, Jefferson also provides fellows with a collegial environment to nurture their intellectual curiosity. Our program uses this combined approach in order to support our fellows’ professional growth – as both scholars and as clinical practitioners.
At Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, we believe comprehensive education is attained through diverse and coordinated clinical as well as scholarly experiences. Our curriculum and clinical rotations provide our fellows with an exceptional training experience, and produces highly qualified child and adolescent psychiatrists year after year. Our clinical training program ensures that all graduates have a superior medical knowledge base, excellent clinical skills, and the ability to apply those skills effectively throughout their future careers.
Upon graduation, the majority of our fellows obtain careers as practitioners in the field of child and adolescent psychiatry, in a variety of community practice settings. However, the academic experience in our program also allows some of our fellows to pursue careers as attending supervisors, educators, researchers, or administrators.
While some of our graduates go on to continue their education with further specialized training, all who graduate from our fellowship program are prepared to take on leadership roles across a variety of healthcare and nonprofit organizations.
