Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences is responsible for developing and teaching medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutics and pharmacology courses in the PharmD program and MS in Pharmaceutical Sciences including a range of elective coursework focusing on drug development, metabolism, pharmacogenomics and nuclear pharmacy.
Faculty and post-doctoral fellows of the department carry out research in the area of biomedical sciences with expertise in synthetic chemistry, drug delivery, computational chemistry, nanotechnology, drug resistance, cell signaling and pharmacology. The department’s core facilities have state of the art equipment including a mass spectrometer, UPLC, HPLC, NMR, RT-PCR, atomic force microscope, fluorescent microscope, rheometer, ultracentrifuges and coulter counter. Student pharmacists at Jefferson College of Pharmacy have the opportunity to engage in research in our laboratories and are encouraged to participate in the dissemination of new information through publications and presentations at scientific meetings.
Dr. Alok Bhushan is Chair of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Dr. Bhushan joined Jefferson College of Pharmacy in 2013 after serving more than 15 years on the faculty at the Idaho State University College of Pharmacy. Dr. Bhushan’s areas of research interest include cancer pharmacology and signal transduction focused on treatment and prevention. He has served as major advisor to several PhD and Master’s students and published numerous scientific articles and reviews. Dr. Bhushan is a fellow of the Academic Fellows Leadership Program of AACP and is an active member of several scientific organizations.
