Master of Social Service (MSS)/Master of Public Health (MPH) Dual Degree
Program Information
The MSS/MPH dual degree option is open to students enrolled at the Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research (GSSWSR) in Bryn Mawr College's Master of Social Services (MSS) program and the Jefferson College of Population Health (JCPH) MPH program.
The MSS/MPH recognizes the long-standing synergy between social service/social work and public health. It accommodates the growing interest of professionals to seek advanced graduate training to enhance their skills in serving populations in need. The dual degree prepares students to work across siloes and in collaboration with communities and multidisciplinary teams of practitioners, researchers, lawyers, educators, and policy makers working to improve health.
MSS/MPH students complete 36 credits (12 courses) of MPH coursework. Additionally, students work closely with faculty to design and complete an independent project on a topic of their choice.
JCPH is flexible and allows MSS/MPH students to complete their MPH coursework in several ways.
- Current full-time GSSWSR MSS students generally complete their MPH between their 1st and 2nd years of MSS education. They complete their MPH coursework on an accelerated timeline.
- Current part-time GSSWSR MSS students are encouraged to talk with the public health program director to identify a course progression that fits their schedule.
- GSSWSR graduates are encouraged to complete their MPH coursework either on a part-time or full-time basis.
Scholarships are available.
JCPH MPH students may apply up to 9 MPH credits towards the MSS degree at Bryn Mawr.
Jefferson's Master of Public Health (MPH) program is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH).
