Biography
Dr. Rosemary (Rosie) Frasso is a health equity researcher and public health educator. Dr. Frasso earned a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania's School of Social Policy & Practice, as well as two master's degrees from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Her current research focuses on the integration of qualitative and quantitative methods in projects designed to improve population health, healthcare quality, access to health services for vulnerable populations and evaluation of educational endeavors in medicine, social work, nursing, allied health, and public health settings. Recognized as an expert in mixed methods study design, Dr. Frasso provides consultation and oversight on qualitative projects for clinicians, researchers, and students as well as for partners from local, national and international organizations, including the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, WillsEye Hospital, the Philadelphia Department of Public Health, the Federal Reserve Banks of Chicago and Philadelphia, LV Prasad Eye Institute in India, Ulster University, Northern Ireland, and Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Italy.
Her expertise in qualitative methods focuses on traditional and alternative data sources and data collection approaches that are crucial to studies designed to inform, assess, and promote health equity interventions. Dr. Frasso has trained hundreds of researchers to conduct rigorous qualitative and mixed methods research studies through a popular mini-course on qualitative research that draws learners from around the US. Dr. Frasso embraces traditional and creative data collection approaches, including, but not limited to, arts informed research, tag-a-long interviews, photo-elicitation interviews, photo-voice, freelisting and consensus-deriving group approaches. Additionally, she has worked on several cross-disciplinary projects with educators, artists and economists who are committed to using qualitative methods to support and enhance community collaborations and to amplify the voices of vulnerable populations.
Dr. Frasso is chair of JCPH's Faculty Affairs Committee, MPH Teaching Team Committee and serves and chairs several university wide, local, and national committees. She is an Associate Editor of the European Journal of Public Health, and is affiliated faculty at Jefferson Center for Connected Care and Jefferson Center for Injury Research & Prevention. She is dedicated to mentoring junior faculty and training the next generation of public health professionals through teaching and mentorship.
Dr. Frasso is the recipient of the 2024 Association for Prevention Teaching and Research F. Marion Bishop Educator of the Year Award. The award recognizes significant and outstanding contributions to the instruction of students that advances the field of prevention and public health.
