Our Textile Designers participate in international design competitions, sponsored industry-projects, and creatively solve problems through their vision and innovation. Please see the highlighted work below.
Featured Project
The Four Seasons: Jacquard Sound Treatments for Restaurants—Alexander Winch, Textile Design MS ’23, created a collection of large-scale jacquard woven tapestries that can be customized for restaurant interiors as highly decorative, sound dampening wall coverings. These seasonal compositions developed from original paintings are woven into complex structures to create a padded, quilted effect. The uneven surface deflects sound in multiple directions, eliminating echoes and reducing the sound level in noisy restaurants. The imagery and palette may be changed to align with each customer’s unique aesthetic.
Competition Highlights
Virginia Jackson Design Competition—Textile Design M.S. and Textile Design B.S. were awarded 8 of the 9 total prizes in the 2023 Virginia Jackson Design Competition, virtually sweeping the competition. This premiere design competition sponsored by the International Textile Alliance was launched in 1995 to recognize outstanding talent in textile design. Jefferson Textile Designers were awarded all 3 prizes in the Jacquard Design and Dobby Design categories, and the top 2 prizes in Print Design.
