Curriculum

The graduate program in Textile Design at Thomas Jefferson University can be structured to fit students with any background, including:

  • Those with no prior experience in a design field
  • Those with a BFA or BA in Fine or Studio Arts (without textile experience)
  • Those with an existing degree in textile design including both technical and design aspects

The MS Textile Design curriculum includes an intensive studio sequence, in the student’s chosen platform (knit design, print design, or woven design). These courses are as follows:

  • TXD 615 Studio 1A: Conceptual Development (3 cr)
  • TXD 616 Studio 1B: Structures (3 cr)
  • TXD 617 Studio 1C: Textile Materials and Processes (3 cr)
  • TXD 742 Studio 2A: Sustainable Applications and Opportunities (3 cr)
  • TXD 743 Studio 2B: Advanced Fiber Exploration (3 cr)
  • TXD 744 Studio 2C: Textile Products and Purpose (3 cr)
  • TXD 772 Studio 3A: Thesis Development (3 cr)
  • TXD 774 Studio 3B: Thesis Collection (2 cr)

The studio sequence is accented with the following courses:

  • TXD 749 Weave Technology II OR TXD 750 Knit Technology II OR TXD 776 Print Technology II (3 cr)
  • TXD 625 Seminar (0 cr)
  • Graduate Level Elective: TXD 756 Advanced Jacquard, TXD 665 Textile Design Management, MSSI 550 Surface Imaging Pattern Design, FASM 201 Prototyping or GRIN 791 Graduate Internship (3 cr)
  • TXD 975 Thesis (1 cr)
