Program
Description
The Master of Science in Textile Design blends creative, artistic design with emerging technologies. Students benefit from a strong technical knowledge of textiles upon which they develop their design work. In Graduate Design Studio, project briefs advance from structured explorations into realization of individualized directions, the development of which will comprise the student’s thesis collection.
Students specialize in knit design, print design or woven design, but are encouraged to incorporate the other areas of textile design through their work. Those with fiber art backgrounds will be able to further their design skills through a greater understanding of textile materials and use of the latest technologies. Those with technical design experience will be encouraged to develop their creative ideas within the environment of the collaborative design studio, using analog and digital methodologies.
Each graduate student participates in a Graduate Exhibition of his or her work as a requirement for graduation. These expositions showcase each student's area of individual exploration and concentration. In addition, each student will produce a thesis, a written document encompassing their final collection, from conceptual research through curated body of work. These theses are catalogued and held within the permanent collection of the Gutman Library.
