Entrance Counseling

Federal Entrance Interview/Counseling is a counseling process required of all first-time federal loan borrowers as mandated by the U.S. Department of Education. Through this process, you will get an explanation of obligations you agree to meet as a condition of borrowing federal loans. Topics include but are not limited to understanding your loan, managing your spending, establishing a plan to repay your loan, and avoiding default and making finances a priority.

To satisfy this requirement, all first-time federal loan borrowers must complete the Federal Entrance Interview/Counseling. Not satisfying this requirement may impact the disbursement of your federal loans. For more information, refer to the Federal Direct Loan Entrance Counseling Guide (PDF).


Exit Counseling

Federal Exit Interview/Counseling is a counseling process required of all students who are graduating or cease to be enrolled at least half time, and have borrowed any federal loan while enrolled at Thomas Jefferson University. Through this process, you will receive an explanation of the terms and conditions that pertain to the loans you have borrowed. Topics include but are not limited to federal loan consolidation, deferment/forbearance, loan cancellation and forgiveness, and repayment strategies and options.

To satisfy this requirement, you must complete the Federal Exit Interview/Counseling. Not satisfying this requirement will result in a hold on your transcript. For more information, refer to the Federal Direct Loan Exit Counseling Guide (PDF).
