The Regola Culture Center
- Peter Kennedy
The Regola Culture Center is to be located between Via Giulia and Lungotevere Dei Sangallo, in line with Ponte Giuseppe Mazzini and framing the newly founded Piazza di Regola. Built in place of a parking garage, this building hopes to revitalize this intersection between some of Rome’s main circulation axis through the expression and celebration of art and history. The natural stone materials of the building such as travertine pay homage to ancient icons of the everlasting city. The program contained within the building varies, but all works towards the goal of propagating and displaying the culture of Rome. This includes a music theatre, private office space for workers, art gallery, multi-use exhibition spaces, retail space, a rooftop restaurant and parking allocated to those living in the neighborhood. The building is clad in a sustainably produced terracotta panel system and uses a combination of louvers and strategically placed roof overhangs to combat excessive sun exposure.
