Rotation Schedule
The Jefferson Pediatrics/PM&R residency takes pride in offering clinically and educationally rewarding rotations. Below is a sample of the rotation schedule. Residents alternate between Pediatric and PM&R rotations each year except for the intern year. Pediatric rotations are highlighted in blue, adult PM&R rotations in green, and pediatric rehabilitation rotations in yellow.
Most pediatric rotations occur at Nemours Children's Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware. Inpatient adult PM&R rotations occur at Magee Rehabilitation Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Residents will also gain varied experience in consultation, sports and spine, EMG, ultrasound, and general outpatient rehabilitation. Other practice sites include the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, the Rothman Orthopaedic Institute, and MossRehab.
By the end of the residency program, our graduates have acquired over eight months of dedicated pediatric rehabilitation experience, including continuity clinic time. Additional pediatric rehabilitation experiences are ongoing throughout the entirety of the training.

Continuity Clinic
Residents participate in the continuity clinic weekly throughout the residency. Clinic experiences evolve to incorporate more sub-specialty experiences as residents progress in their pediatric physiatry knowledge.
PGY-1: General Pediatrics clinic weekly.
PGY-2 and PGY-3: Residents alternate weekly between General Pediatrics and Special Babies clinic treating medically complex children.
PGY-4 and PGY-5: General Pediatrics clinic is replaced with Cerebral Palsy clinic. Residents continue running the Special Babies clinic every other week.
Vacation & Educational Days
Residents are allotted twenty (20) days of vacation per year, holidays notwithstanding. Additionally, five (5) educational days per year are provided for personalized learning.
Call
Call location is based on the current rotation. For example, pediatrics call occur on pediatrics rotations and PM&R call while on rehab rotations.
Pediatrics
Call frequency varies based on rotation. There are call-free rotations.
Interns can expect one full weekend off every four weeks while working one 1-weekend shift each of the remaining three weekends. Interns also participate in two 2-week blocks of night float.
Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R)
PGY-2: Three to four calls per month (typically three weekend day calls)
PGY-3: Two calls per month (typically one-weekend day call) with a weekend backup call
PGY-4: One-weekday call per month with a weekday backup call
*One resident is on call at Magee Rehabilitation Hospital nightly. A senior resident is available for emergency backup in case of an emergency.

Nemours Children's Hospital is a pediatric hospital located in Wilmington, Delaware. It is a non-profit organization created by philanthropist Alfred I. du Pont in 1936 and dedicated to improving children's health. The hospital offers intensive, acute inpatient, and outpatient services in more than 30 disciplines. It is internationally recognized in blood and bone marrow transplantation, achondroplasia, cancer, cardiology and cardiac surgery, neurosurgery, orthopedics, and solid organ transplantation.
Thomas Jefferson University Hospital
Philadelphia, PA
Initially formed in 1825 as the Infirmary of the Jefferson Medical College, the predecessor of the Hospital of Jefferson Medical College, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital serves patients in Philadelphia and the surrounding communities in the Delaware Valley and southern New Jersey. Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals are consistently recognized nationally and locally by various organizations and institutions in every aspect of patient care, patient safety, and quality of the healthcare experience.
The Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals system has 957 licensed acute care beds. Services are provided at five locations: the main hospital facility and Jefferson Hospital for Neuroscience, both in Center City Philadelphia; Methodist Hospital in South Philadelphia; Jefferson at the Navy Yard; and Jefferson-Voorhees in South Jersey. Magee Rehabilitation Hospital

Magee Rehabilitation Hospital is a 96-bed stand-alone rehabilitation hospital. Magee Rehabilitation aims to improve the quality of life of persons with disabilities by providing high-quality physical and cognitive rehabilitation services.
The main campus offers comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services for SCI, TBI, stroke, orthopedic replacement, limb loss, pain management, and work injury. Magee also provides an expanding outpatient network serving the surrounding communities. In 1985, Magee’s brain injury rehabilitation program became the first in the nation to be accredited by CARF. Magee partnered with Jefferson Hospital to create one of the nation’s 14 federally designated centers for SCI rehabilitation. Magee treats more than 5,000 individuals annually and has been rated one of America’s leading rehabilitation hospitals by U.S. News and World Report.
Christiana Hospital
Newark, DE
Christiana Hospital is a 913-bed, 1.3-million-square-foot, modern facility in Newark, Delaware. Christiana Hospital is Delaware's only high-risk delivering hospital offering Level III neonatal intensive care. Among hospitals in the US, Christiana Hospital ranks 36th in births. ChristianaCare performs over 6,000 deliveries a year, offering our residents ample hands-on learning experiences in the Delivery Room and NICU.

For 27 years, MossRehab has been ranked as a "Best Hospital" for rehabilitation by U.S. News & World Report. MossRehab boasts 23 physicians who are board-certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation. Our residents can learn from knowledgeable faculty by rotating through the only CARF-accredited amputation program in the region.

Since its founding in 1970, Rothman Orthopaedic Institute has grown from a single Philadelphia office into one of the nation’s most prominent and most respected orthopedic practices. Rothman Orthopaedic Institute is included in the Jefferson Department of Orthopedics, which received a national ranking from US News & World Reports. Rothman Orthopaedic Institute is the Official Orthopaedic Partner of many teams, including the Eagles, 76ers, and Phillies. Our resident solidifies their musculoskeletal, sports medicine, and interventional spine knowledge while working hands-on with Rothman's 26 physiatrists on staff.
