The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency program at Jefferson seeks to attract and train a group of physiatrists who are passionate about caring for and improving the quality of life of individuals with conditions that cause disability. Specific aims for our program include:
- We pride ourselves on being a welcoming environment for all individuals regardless of their clinical interests. We feel that diversity of thought and ideas is essential for a residency program to thrive and aim to produce residents who advance into various fields and practice settings within PM&R.
- Growing as an educator during residency is an essential focus of our program. Residents receive expert instruction on teaching methods, and many develop educational scholarship projects. Residents naturally teach other residents and participate in robust medical student education through various workshops, gross anatomy dissection, and bedside teaching.
- We believe that functional anatomy is one of the building blocks of physiatric knowledge, and our annual faculty-led anatomy course involves didactic education, dissection, and knowledge assessment.
Residents at Jefferson satisfy training requirements as outlined by the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education and the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Numerous inpatient and outpatient programs are conducted at several medical facilities located throughout the Delaware Valley region.
There is also an opportunity for pursuing a combined residency in physiatry and pediatrics offered by the Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children.
SKMC uses a rolling centralized process through Visiting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO) for visiting students for our four-week elective in Rehabilitation Medicine. The process is opened by the Registrar in the spring after they have finished the internal student schedules.
