Culture & Well-Being in the Neurology Residency

At Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, we understand that your life and interests outside of the hospital are essential to your growth as a physician. Our Neurology Residency Program is dedicated to fostering a supportive and close-knit community where your co-residents and faculty become a source of friendship and encouragement.

We regularly sponsor social events for residents outside of the hospital to help you unwind and connect with your peers. These activities have included pumpkin picking in the fall, mini-golf, happy hours, and more. Our residency also has a dedicated Wellness & Resident-Life Committee that helps organize events and provides opportunities for residents to engage in peer leadership. We are always open to new ideas from our residents and actively encourage suggestions for activities that promote camaraderie and make your residency experience special.

Our residents also enjoy engaging with the greater neurology and medical community through social media. Our resident-run Instagram (@jeffersonneurology) and Twitter (@TJUHNeurology) accounts highlight the clinical and scholarly achievements of our residents and faculty, while also showcasing fun photos and interactions with our broader social media community. We cherish our virtual interactions with prospective residents and love sharing the vibrant culture of our program.

Join us at Jefferson, where you'll find a supportive community dedicated to your well-being and success both inside and outside the hospital. We look forward to welcoming you into our family.

Philadelphia itself offers an unparalleled array of attractions, cultural landmarks, diverse dining options, and entertainment choices for our residents to savor. Renowned for its walkability and urban accessibility, Philadelphia provides the cosmopolitan charm of an East Coast city at a fraction of the cost compared to its northeast urban counterparts.

The city boasts an eclectic blend of neighborhoods, from the historic colonial homes lining cobblestone streets in Old City to the bustling Italian Market in South Philadelphia. Neighborhoods like Fishtown, Northern Liberties, Bella Vista, Washington Square, Rittenhouse Square, and Fairmount cater to every lifestyle, offering residents a range of living options within close proximity to Jefferson. Many residents enjoy the convenience of walking to work while relishing the vibrant ambiance of Center City and its surrounding neighborhoods.

Known as the "City of Brotherly Love," Philadelphia stands out as one of America's most ethnically diverse cities, with a rich heritage shaped by African American, Asian, Eastern European, Irish, and Italian immigrant communities.

Philadelphia's sports culture is legendary, and residents enjoy supporting and watching teams like the Eagles (NFL), Phillies (MLB), Sixers (NBA), Flyers (NHL), and Union (MLS). Whether it’s cheering on the Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field, catching a Phillies game at Citizens Bank Park, or experiencing the excitement of a Sixers or Flyers game at Wells Fargo Center, there’s always a thrilling sporting event to attend.

Beyond the city limits, Philadelphia's suburbs are teeming with entertainment possibilities. Throughout the suburbs, cozy clubs, bars, bookstores, and coffeehouses provide residents who choose to love outside the city with ample opportunities for relaxation and socializing. Philadelphia's robust public transportation network ensures seamless access in and out of the city, enhancing residents' mobility and connectivity to nearby communities.

Historically significant, Philadelphia is celebrated as the birthplace of American Independence, where the Liberty Bell tolls and Independence Hall echoes with the spirit of democracy.
