Physical therapy is a dynamic and fulfilling career projected to grow as a profession in today’s evolving healthcare environment. The Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program at Thomas Jefferson University prides itself on several unique attributes that may make Thomas Jefferson University the ideal fit for you to meet your education and career goals:
- The opportunity to make your mark at a highly-ranked program with a national reputation
- An excellent medical center in a dynamic urban setting within an expanding healthcare system
- A faculty committed to graduating students who are prepared to practice in tomorrow's healthcare environment
- The opportunity to participate in interprofessional education with students from other healthcare professions in state-of-the-art educational environments
The faculty achieves our education mission "to graduate highly competent self-reflective physical therapists who are patient advocates, leaders in the community and the profession, prepared to treat a culturally diverse population of clients and pursue professional development opportunities" through a commitment to academic excellence.
The curriculum is built upon a strong basic science foundation emphasizing evidence-based physical therapy practice integrated with part-time experiential learning activities and 36 weeks of full-time clinical education. Graduates of our Program are prepared to examine and treat musculoskeletal and neuromuscular problems and to develop injury prevention and wellness programs for people at all stages of life. Graduates are prepared to apply scientific knowledge, humanistic values, critical analysis, and a systematic approach to patient care when making clinical decisions.
The PT program is a three-year (10 semesters) full-time program. There are two pathways to enter our Doctorate in Physical Therapy program: a 3+3 program at Jefferson or an application upon completing a baccalaureate degree.
A Thomas Jefferson University education moves students beyond the skills and facts of physical therapy to become practitioners who can be responsive within the dynamic healthcare environment. Through ongoing professional development across the curriculum, students demonstrate professionalism by respecting the rights and dignity of patients, acting in a trustworthy manner, and maintaining and promoting high standards for physical therapy practice, education, service, and research.
I hope you will continue exploring our website to learn more about how the DPT program at Thomas Jefferson University can meet your educational and professional goals. Please feel free to contact me if you have any additional questions.
