Designed for high school graduates interested in pursuing a career in physical therapy. This program provides an accelerated degree path that shortens the time to graduation by one full year while still delivering a high-quality educational experience that couples both classroom and clinical-based educational experiences necessary to earn a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science and a Doctor of Physical Therapy. The exercise science aspect will provide graduates with foundational knowledge in science, anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, and exercise prescription.
Curriculum
Students complete three years of coursework in the exercise science program, encompassing foundational knowledge in science, anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, and exercise prescription. It also includes all of the required prerequisites for the DPT program. Students meeting all program prerequisites and academic standards are guaranteed admission into the professional phase of the program. The three-year curriculum in exercise science totals 104 credits of undergraduate coursework. Once entered into the professional phase, students will complete three years (10 semesters) of physical therapy education and clinical coursework. Students not meeting these requirements will be eligible to complete a four-year BS degree in Exercise Science.
Jefferson exercise science students will learn hands-on clinical skills during their internship course in their third year. Common sites include fitness centers, strength and condition facilities, and hospital-based settings.
Jefferson physical therapy students learn clinical skills during several part and full-time clinical experiences in various physical therapy settings.
