Overview

Jefferson offers exercise science education as a bachelor of science degree with options for accelerated tracks in our other professional programs (MSAT, DPT, OTD). The exercise science program is designed to provide the knowledge and skills necessary to be successful in a health or fitness career.

Exercise Science graduates work in various settings that center around improving the health and well-being of individuals throughout their lifespan.  Common job placements include but are not limited to personal training, strength coaching, corporate wellness, exercise physiologist, cardiac rehabilitation, clinical exercise specialist, human performance, or sport scientist.  Graduates can also gain entry into graduate-level programs, which include but are not limited to biomechanics, physiology, exercise physiology, athletic training, physical therapy, occupational therapy, physician assistant, or public health.  The demand for health and fitness professionals is expected to grow significantly faster than the average occupation over the next 10 years.

Mission

  • To provide students with the fundamental knowledge, concepts, and skills needed in the fitness industry to enhance the health and well-being of individuals throughout their lifespans.
  • To prepare students for successful employment in the fitness industry and/or for pursuing advanced degrees in other health or performance-related professions.
  • To provide hands-on practical experience with fitness professionals in various settings, which allows students to apply the classroom knowledge they gained and develop the interpersonal skills needed to work directly with fitness clients.
  • To prepare students to critically evaluate new information and technology using an evidence-based approach to ultimately enhance the health and well-being of their clients.
