Textile Design Students Earn Top Prizes in Virginia Jackson Design Competition

Jefferson textile design students have once again earned top awards in the International Textile Alliance’s Virginia Jackson Design Competition.

They swept the jacquard woven category with first place going to MS in textile design student Jiyoung Park, second place to BS in textile design student Jessica Butler and honorable mention to MS in textile design student Emily Reppert. In the dobby woven category, Park also earned first place and Reppert won second.

Last month, the winning designs were displayed at Showtime, the premier home furnishings textile trade show in High Point, N.C.

“This recognition by industry leaders is a testament to the amazing work our students do,” says Marcia Weiss, director of Jefferson’s textile design programs and the Fashion and Textile Futures Center.

Jefferson students have consistently won top prizes for over a decade in the national competition, which recognizes students for their designs for residential upholstery use. Jurors analyze the projects based on creative concept, furniture application, color and applicability to other home furnishings.
