COVID-19 Information for Travel
Travel advisories are changing often. Please check CDC travel advisories for the latest general information and our university Travel Guidelines page for more information on student and employee travel.
Our top priority is the safety and welfare of all members of the Jefferson community. As COVID-19 is an evolving situation, these questions and answers will be updated regularly. Any students with questions or needing assistance in any of Jefferson’s study away programs, short courses or other may call 215-951-2815 or email [email protected] or [email protected].
I am a Jefferson Study Away Student and have questions about the impact of COVID-19 on my program. Who do I contact?
Please contact the Director of Study Away at 215-951-2815 as well as your host program.
I need the latest information about the Coronavirus, who do I contact?
Please consult the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Department of State (DOS) for guidance on travel and the latest information about the Coronavirus. The CDC is providing guidance based upon travelers’ vaccination status.
I have recently applied to a Study Away Program. What happens if my program is cancelled?
At this time, Jefferson is moving forward with approved study away programs for 2021-2022 academic year based on a thorough review of destination and program. In the event that that should change, students will receive notification and guidance from us about other programs and Study Away office work with Residence life as well as their academic departments to support them in course enrollment and accommodations for their impacted semester.
Have Study Abroad programs resumed?
Jefferson has joined many of our peer institutions and restarted select Study Away programs starting Fall 2021. This decision was based upon guidance from the Department of State for vaccinated travelers, revised entry requirements and resumption of in person instruction and programming. Students are being advised on additional modifications, precautions, and guidelines for health and safety and should expect that there may be restrictions on travel while abroad. Students who have received exemptions for vaccine requirements must meet with the Director of Study Away to discuss their program and host country’s vaccine or testing requirements.
I am a Jefferson student returning from abroad, who do I check in with when I return to the United States?
Students arriving in the United States from abroad must check in with the Director of Study Away at [email protected] or with the Office of International Services at [email protected].
Prior to returning to any Jefferson campus, students must call Student Health Services (East Falls) at 215-951-2986 or Jefferson Occupational Health Network (JOHN) in Center City 215-955-6835 for a screening to be cleared to return to campus life.
How does Jefferson make decisions about its study abroad programs as it relates to COVID-19?
Jefferson is following the guidelines from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the U.S. Department of State, as well as taking into consideration local conditions and the advice of our host institutions.
What if I am scheduled to study abroad but am sick before my group’s travel?
If a student is sick prior to departure, we recommend they visit Student Health Services and contact the Study Away Office at 215-951-2815.
What if I decide to leave a Jefferson study abroad program that has not been suspended?
Please be advised that unless Jefferson has officially cancelled the program, students are responsible for all costs related to withdrawal, as acknowledged in the student’s signed decision statement. Financial liability will be determined according to how far into the process the student is at the time of withdrawal. Any extenuating circumstances will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Students who wish to withdraw must submit a request in writing to [email protected]. Additional withdrawal policies can be found on our Study Away Website.
