Body MRI

The Body MRI Fellowship is a dedicated one-year program for one fellow, which incorporates all aspects of body and cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging (both clinical and research), including basic and advanced principles of MRI. Specialized applications include MR angiography, cholangiopancreatography, elastography, enterography, multiparametric prostate for fusion biopsy, rectal cancer staging, and dynamic urogynocologic stress imaging. The Body MRI Fellow becomes an important member of the Body MRI service leadership, attending monthly staff meetings and, in close collaboration with MRI faculty, participating in continuous improvement of the MRI service.

In- and outpatient services are active and the fellow will help plan protocols, monitor studies, manage rotating radiology residents and provide appropriate diagnoses and consultations to the referring clinical services. The fellowship provides ample time and opportunity for active ongoing research related to magnetic resonance imaging. The Jefferson Body MRI service is a busy teleradiography-based service located in a central reading room, receiving and interpreting MRI exams from MRI units from four different vendors, including one 5T and 3T units. We also receive a large volume of requests for second opinions of exams performed at other institutions. This experience provides a unique opportunity to learn protocol optimization for systems with varied capabilities, and to understand the range of MRI practices both locally and throughout the United States. All case interpretation and teaching is by body MRI specialists who emphasize practical application of MRI physics, teaching and techniques.
