Announcing an Opportunity for 2024: Visiting Student Diversity Scholarship in Radiation Oncology
The Sidney Kimmel Comprehenisve Cancer Center at Thomas Jefferson University is offering a Visiting Student Diversity Scholarship for fourth-year medical students interested in Radiation Oncology. The program will be offered to an eligible students in 2024.
The Department of Radiation Oncology at Thomas Jefferson University in Center City, Philadelphia, encourages fourth-year medical students who are underrepresented in the medical field to apply for our Visiting Student Diversity Scholarship to explore interest in the field of radiation oncology. This will be a four-week rotation in the months of August, September, or October, taking place at the Center City campus of Thomas Jefferson University.
The program will provide expense reimbursement to help defray costs of transportation, fees, and housing expenses.
Program Description
This program is designed to give students the experience of cancer care in the field of radiation oncology. The student will rotate through the different clinical services in the department, attend cancer center grand rounds, observe specialized treatments, and work with the residents and attending physicians. The student will be assigned a mentor to help navigate the process while here on rotation.
Who Should Apply?
The program is open to applicants who belong to groups that are recognized as underrepresented in the health profession, including African American, American Indian, Alaska Native, Hispanic/Latinx, Pacific Islander, and/or LGBTQ+. This rotation is offered for four weeks in the late summer/fall. Students must be enrolled in their final year of medical school, be in good academic standing at an LCME-accredited medical school, and have completed all required core clerkships. In addition, students must meet the requirements of the Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University for visiting students.
