A highlight every Wednesday morning at JeffEM, this proteced time is always loaded with exciting content lead by APD Dr. Stobart-Gallagher. Conferences feature core-content lectures, M&M, SIM, review of EM literature, novel hands-on learning methods, class-specific learning sessions, oral board review and much more. During COVID-19, we were the first among EM programs in the country to transition our weekly conferences to the virtual platform on Zoom, which has been a huge success.
Lead by the all-star team, residents receive robust ultrasound training from day one of intern year. The dedicated ultrasound month is a highlight and residents enjoy participating in weekly tape review and U/S focused journal club. Each year Jefferson Emergency Medicine residents graduate with hundreds of scans under their belt and the confidence to incorporate Emergency Medicine ultrasound into their clinical practice.
Medical Education is a central focus at Jefferson Emergency Medicine. Our MedEd fellows are continuously pushing the envelope when it comes to innovative ideas which are often highlighted at our weekly conference. Our EM Teach block for seniors also allow residents to develop teaching expertise through dedicated teach shifts with our SKMC medical students.
Over six weeks of elective time as seniors, residents get to explore their passion within Emergency Medicine, ranging from popular electives at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital to international adventures. In the past we have had residents experience practicing EM in Block Island, St. Lucia and Rwanda.
Dr. Ron Hall leads our ED simulation division at Jefferson’s state-of-the-art Rector Clinical Skills & Simulation Center. Throughout residency our residents work to hone their clinical skills in the SIM center. Every year we practice tough cases and rare procedures including difficult airways, TVPs, ECMO, crics, lateral canthotomies, difficulty births just to name a few.
Snacks in the lounge, annual retreat, book money, post shift MilkBoys, asynchronous learning, circadian rhythm, protected journal club, conference support, and our Residency Twitter makes resident wellness a top priority!
