What are the demographics of a recent entering class?
- The members of the 2024 entering class came from 107 different undergraduate schools, 27 states and eight other countries. A profile of the matriculated students includes the following:

Do you give preference to in-state applicants?
No preference is given to in-state applicants. Sidney Kimmel Medical College is the official medical school for the state of Delaware. Delaware residents (In residence for three years or more) may apply as a DIMER applicant.

How do I apply to SKMC?
The Sidney Kimmel Medical College participates in the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS). Applications should be submitted to AMCAS between June 1 and November 15.
What is AMCAS?

Does SKMC offer any cooperative programs?
Yes. Some of our cooperative programs include the following:

- Physician Shortage Area Program (PSAP)
- Medical Scholars Program (MSP)
- Jefferson Accelerated Program with Penn State University BS/MD
How do I apply to the MD/PhD Program?
Students interested in the combined MD/PhD program must apply through AMCAS, indicating the Combined Degree application type, and complete a secondary application to Sidney Kimmel Medical College. The deadline for application to the MD/PhD program is October 15.
Does SKMC offer a combined BS/MD Program?
Yes, the Jefferson Accelerated Program with Penn State University, for high school seniors only. Students earn both the BS and MD degrees in seven calendar years after graduation from high school. To apply, please contact Penn State at 814-865-7620.
Does SKMC offer a formal post-baccalaureate course of study?
SKMC does not offer a formal post-baccalaureate course of study, but the Jefferson College of Life Sciences does offer a Post-Bacculaureate Pre-Professional Program for individuals seeking to complete their basic science requirements in order to prepare for entrance to medical school.
Tracking Your Application
How do I maintain contact and demonstrate interest in my application to SKMC?
To maintain the integrity of the admissions process at Sidney Kimmel Medical College. All communications concerning your application, including the interview, should be emailed to: [email protected]. Please include "Attention: Committee on Admissions" in your email subject line. You may also call our offices directly: 215-955-6984.
What is the status page?
The status page is designed for all applicants, to see what stage your application is in during the processing phase. The page will indicate when your AMCAS application and SKMC supplemental application form and fee were received, when your MCAT test scores were received at SKMC from AMCAS and when your letters of recommendation were received.
How will I know when my application is complete?
Your application is complete when all items on the status page have a date received, or a 'yes' indicated. Once all required items are in, your application will move to the Admissions Committee for review.
When will my submitted application be processed?
Your application will begin processing after we receive your AMCAS application, SKMC secondary application, fee or AMCAS Fee Waiver and letters of recommendation. It can sometimes take six weeks to complete the processing of your application.
When will I know if I am going to receive an interview?
Invitations for interviews are extended between July and January. If you are granted an interview, you will receive an email via [email protected] from our Dean of Admissions, Dr. Alisa LoSasso.
When will I know the final decision on my application?
Applicants will be informed of the committee on admissions final decission between February and July. All applicants who have interviewed, will be notified within 4 to 6 weeks of their interview date.
Application Requirements
Is a Bachelor's degree required for entrance to SKMC?
Yes. A Bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. or Canadian college or university is required.
Are SAT or ACT scores required for admission?
No, but the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) is required.
SAT & ACT information provides additional information about your performance during standardized testing.
How old can my MCAT scores be when I apply?
Scores should be no older than three years at the time of application.
Where do I send letters of recommendation?
Letters of recommendation are to be sent to AMCAS only. Please review the AMCAS letter transmission policy. Do not submit letters of recommendation to Sidney Kimmel Medical College.
What are the requirements for letters of recommendation?
Generally Sidney Kimmel Medical College prefers a composite letter written on behalf of the applicant by the college or university's pre-health committee, if there is one. Some schools do not provide this service but offer to collect individual letters of recommendation and mail them to the medical schools. If individual letters are sent, Please consider sedning them from the following disciplines: biology, chemistry, physics and humanities. Additionally, letters can be submitted by a principal investigator, employer, or volunteer supervisor.
Are exemptions made on the required letters of recommendation?
You may direct exemption requests to the Committee on Admissions using the optional information section on the Secondary Application.
Secondary Application
When will I receive the SKMC secondary application?
Once we receive your verified AMCAS application, we will send you an e-mail notification with instructions for completing the Sidney Kimmel Medical College online secondary application.
Can I cut and paste information into the application?
Yes. You will be able to cut and paste information into the SKMC supplemental application if you would like to prepare the text ahead of time. The easiest way to accomplish this is by using Microsoft Word, then copy it into the application. Please be aware of our 4,000 character (including spaces) limit for the additional information section.
Can I make changes to my secondary application after it is submitted?
Changes to your application can only be submitted in writing. No online changes can occur.
International Students
I am an International student. Will that affect my chances of getting into SKMC?
International students who have a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in the United States or Canada, and have completed the requirements, are eligible to apply at SKMC. International students are judged by the same criteria as U.S. citizens.
International students who do not have a Baccalaureate degree from an institution in the United States or Canada are not accepted for admission.
My undergrad degree is from an institution outside of the U.S. or Canada. Can I still apply to SKMC?
No. Foreign students who do not have a Baccalaureate degree from an institution in the United States or Canada are not accepted for admission. Courses taken outside the U.S. or Canada cannot be used to fulfill requirements.
Do you accept transfer applications from students enrolled at foreign medical schools?
We do not accept transfer applications from students enrolled in foreign medical schools. Only students currently enrolled in Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) accredited medical schools may apply for transfer.
Are International students eligible for financial aid?
International students are not eligible to apply for financial scholarships and loans. Contact the Office of Financial Aid for more information.
