Coaching Outcomes in Community-Dwelling Adults with Spinal Cord Injuries and/or their Informal Caregivers
This study examines the outcomes of Coaching in Context on participation in community-dwelling adults with spinal cord injuries, their caregivers, or both. MJ Mulcahey (PI). Funded by Jefferson.
Supporting Coaching Fidelity for Improved Psychosocial Outcome in Spinal Cord Injury
This project aims to develop a standard test of fidelity to coaching that is valid and precise. Namrata Grampurohit (PI). Funded by Craig H. Neilsen Foundation.
Development & Validation of the SCI-MovIN Performance-by-Observation Measure
This study aims to develop and validate item pool movement capacity using item banking as a precursor for an IRT-derived clinical trial outcome assessment. MJ Mulcahey (PI). Funded by the Craig H. Neilsen Foundation.
SCI-MovIN Fidelity Assessment
This study seeks to develop a fidelity assessment for the Spinal Cord Injury Movement Index and evaluate its reliability and usability. MJ Mulcahey (PI). Funding source Craig H. Neilsen Foundation.
The Impact of Injustice Appraisals on Psychosocial Outcomes Following Spinal Cord Injury: A Longitudinal Study
This study seeks to learn from people living with spinal cord injuries about how they experience feelings or loss, unfairness, and blame related to their injury. MJ Mulcahey in collaboration with the University of Minnesota; Kim Moden (PI). Funded by the Department of Defense.
A Validation Study of Remote Testing of Physical Function in Spinal Cord Injury
The outcomes from the current study establish the psychometric data to support the claim that assessing remotely is a valid and reliable way to measure physical function in SCI with complementary measures, the Spinal Cord Injury Movement Index, the Spinal Cord Independence Measure Version III (SCIM-III) and the Graded Redefined Assessment of Strength, Sensibility, and Prehension (GRASSP). Namrata Grampurohit (PI). Funded by the Craig H. Neilsen Foundation.
Restoration of Grasp and Reach in Cervical Spinal Cord Injury
The goal of this study is to initiate a multi-center clinical trial of the Network Neuroprosthetic (NNP) system for hand grasp and reach in cervical spinal cord injury. MJ Mulcahey in collaboration with Case Western Reserve University; P. Hunter Peckham (PI). Funded by the National Institute of Neurological Disorders & Stroke (NINDS)
National Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Statistical Center
The goal of this study is to monitor outcomes of SCI at 1, 5, 10, and every five years thereafter. MJ Mulcahey in collaboration with the University of Alabama at Birmingham; Yu-Ying Chen (PI). Funded by the National Center for Medical Rehabilitation Research.
Motor Restoration in Chronic SCI with Combinatorial Intermittent Hypercapnic-Hypoxia and Transcutaneous Spinal Stimulation
This study seeks to evaluate if short bouts of breathing low oxygen with elevated carbon dioxide combined with non-invasive electrical spinal stimulation can help people with SCI to improve strength and function in muscles involved in breathing and hand function. The technical name of this breathing approach is called “acute intermittent hypercapnic-hypoxia” or AIHH. Jayakrishnan Nair (PI). Funded by Jefferson.
Post-Discharge Support for Caregivers of Adults with Stroke Through Telehealth Coaching in Context
This study examines the feasibility of Coaching in Context for caregivers of individuals with acute stroke and its effectiveness compared to the standard of care. Namrata Grampurohit (PI). Funded by the American Occupational Therapy Foundation.
Clinicians’ Perceptions of Infusing Coaching into their Occupational Therapy Practice
This project explores the extent to which occupational therapists trained in coaching during their entry-level education infuse coaching components and attributes in their practice. Marie-Christine Potvin (PI). Funded by Jefferson.
Understanding the nuances of Pre-clinical & Human Clinical Trial Outcome Measures
This project is developing a matrix of upper and lower extremity measures used in animal and human spinal cord injury research and identifying similarities and differences in the measures. Gaps in measurement for translation will be identified. MJ Mulcahey (PI). Funded by Thomas Jefferson University Office of the Provost
Knowledge Translation of Outcome Measures for Clinicians
In collaboration with the Rehabilitation Measures Task Force, instrument summaries and Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation tearsheets are developed routinely. The crosswalk of Rehabilitation Measures to the NINDS Common data elements is also a related project. Namrata Grampurohit. Funded by
Normative Reference Values of Thoracolumbar Spine Motion in Adolescent Females
This study seeks to establish normative values for the spine of healthy female adolescents between 10-17 years of age. MJ Mulcahey (PI). Funded by the pediatric Spine Foundation.
