Dr. Ginah Nightingale Appointed to Board of Association of Community Cancer Center

Dr. Ginah Nightingale, Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice, was recently appointed to a 2-year term on the Board of the Association of Community Cancer Centers. This is an interprofessional organization of more than 24,000 cancer care team members from 2,100 hospitals and practices in the US. ACCC brings together health professionals from all disciplines in oncology to promote quality cancer care. It is estimated that 65% of all patients with cancer in the US are treated by a member of ACCC. Dr. Nightingale is excited to serve in this organization at this pivotal time in healthcare in order to advocate on behalf of patients with cancer and healthcare providers.

Dr. Nightingale maintains clinical practice sites at the inpatient Medical Oncology unit at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and the ambulatory Senior Adult Oncology Center at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Kimmel Cancer Center, where she provides medication management services, medication adherence counseling and medication education. Dr. Nightingale is an active member of the Hematology Oncology Pharmacy Association (HOPA), the International Society of Geriatric Oncology (SIOG), and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) and the Association of Community Cancer Centers (ACCC). Dr. Nightingale’s research interests include senior adult oncology, specifically, medication related problems including polypharmacy, potentially inappropriate medication use, adverse drug events and medication adherence in senor adults living with cancer. She has authored several papers on the prevalence of polypharmacy in older adults with cancer and the impact of polypharmacy on patient outcomes in older adults with cancer.
