Students accepted for dual admission have the opportunity to complete a Master of Science in Midwifery or a Post-Graduate Certificate in Midwifery while working toward earning a Doctor of Midwifery. These accelerated dual degree program options follow a full-time plan of study. Upon completion of the Master of Science (MS) or Post-Graduate Certificate (PGC) program, graduates must pass the board exam offered by the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB) in order to progress and complete their doctoral degree. Students may take up to two years off to establish themselves in clinical practice before returning to complete the Doctor of Midwifery.

These streamlined options of the Master of Science or Post-Graduate Certificate plus Doctor of Midwifery Degree reduces the overall time spent in school when compared to attending both programs sequentially. These options are designed to allow the graduate of the basic midwifery program to enter practice, solidify knowledge and skills learned, and establish themselves as a certified practicing midwife while completing their doctoral studies part-time. The dual degree option is designed to help new midwives develop leadership skills to confront today’s challenges in healthcare.

The Master of Science and Post-Graduate Certificate in midwifery programs are accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education. The Doctor of Midwifery program curriculum is designed to be consistent with the American College of Nurse-Midwives Practice Doctorate in Midwifery competencies. Jefferson is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education to provide professional doctoral degrees.

The combined plan of study for the Master of Science or Post-Graduate Certificate plus Doctor or Midwifery is a rigorous full-time plan during which working is discouraged, until certification is earned. The programs make every effort to find funds to support students on this track.
