The first-ever professional Doctor of Midwifery from the Midwifery & Women’s Health Programs at Jefferson is designed to develop leadership skills for mid-career midwives.
Program Overview
Students will advance clinical practice, education, policy or administration by uncovering new strategies and applying principles of implementation science.
The first-ever professional Doctor of Midwifery degree from the Midwifery & Women’s Health Programs at Jefferson is designed to develop leadership skills for midwives.
The fully online program seeks to bring midwives to the forefront of reproductive, maternity, newborn, and wellness care. The Midwifery & Women’s Health Programs at Jefferson has established this first doctoral program to advance midwifery-specific expertise, leadership, and scholarship.
Program Highlights
During the program, students will significantly advance their professional presence and influence in the field through a multi-semester Advances in Midwifery project. Students are challenged to address a relevant real-world issue, and are closely mentored from problem identification, through project design, implementation, evaluation, and dissemination. During each stage, students produce professional products, including review articles, a grant inquiry or proposal, public presentations and posters. By the completion of the program, students will produce at least one work for submission to a peer-reviewed venue, as well as a substantive doctoral project report.
Accreditation
While the Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education does not accredit post-professional degree programs at this time, the Doctor of Midwifery program curriculum is designed to be consistent with the American College of Nurse-Midwives Practice Doctorate in Midwifery competencies. Jefferson is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education to provide professional doctoral degrees.
Curriculum
The program is available as a part-time program, starting during the fall semester.
