Faculty Ombuds
The Faculty Ombuds is a resource available to all faculty and postdocs that Jefferson has established to assist with the satisfactory resolution of problems and conflicts arising in the workplace. The Faculty Ombuds serves as an independent, neutral resource – visitors are welcome to discuss any concern that is interfering with their academic or work life. The Faculty Ombuds will listen without judgment; offer information about policies and procedures, and help individuals identify and evaluate the different options available to address their concerns.
Ethics and Standards of Practice
The Ombuds services are:
- Independent: The Ombuds conducts their work with independence. In order to effectively carry out their role, the Ombuds works hard to merit the trust of all members of the Jefferson community.
- Neutral and Impartial: The Ombuds, as a designated neutral, remains unaligned and impartial. The Ombuds does not engage in any situation which could create a conflict of interest. The Ombuds considers the interests and concerns of all parties and seeks ways to create mutual understanding and resolve disputes with the purpose of helping to achieve a fair and equitable outcome.
- Confidential: The Ombuds holds all communications with those seeking assistance in strict confidence, and does not disclose confidential communications unless given permission to do so. The only exception to confidentiality is if the Ombuds believes that disclosure of information is necessary in order to prevent an imminent harm, or to ensure investigation of potential unlawful conduct.
- Informal: The Ombuds, as an informal resource, does not participate in any formal adjudicative or administrative procedure related to concerns brought to their attention. If you wish to let Jefferson know of a potential ethical, policy or legal violation, the Ombuds will work with you to find the proper channel for making that complaint.
