Writing Across the Curriculum
The Writing Across the Curriculum initiative supports Jefferson's commitment to fostering strong writing skills so that students can excel in both academic and professional settings. Writing skills are integrated across all curricula, and are the focus of Hallmarks writing courses and writing intensive courses.
Students take at least four writing-intensive courses between the freshman and senior year, in addition to the Writing-101 and 201 requirement. At least one writing intensive course must be categorized within a student’s major. The program also offers Honors and English as a Second Language course options.
The Writing Program emphasizes writing within each major so students become fluent communicators within the context of their discipline. These courses help students to develop their profession-specific communication styles and establish credibility in their fields.
Faculty may receive individual support for the teaching of writing at any level via consultation. To inquire or learn more, please email Dr. Katie Gindlesparger, Director of the University Writing Program, at [email protected].
