My research program examines developmental foundations of psychiatric and neurodevelopmental disorders in children and adolescents. These kinds of studies require access to tissues from patients at various developmental stages as psychiatric illnesses unfold. I have pursued two lines of investigation: a) olfactory neuroepithelial biopsy studies in patients with psychosis, depression, and bipolar disorder and b) animal studies that examine specific findings identified in human tissue studies.
