Applying to the Program
Thank you for your interest in the Neurological Surgery Residency at Thomas Jefferson University. Our program currently accepts three residents per year.
Applications must be submitted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) in the Fall of the current academic year to be considered for a residency position starting July 1 of the next academic year. We typically receive over 400 applications each cycle, and invite ~60 applicants for interviews. Applicants are evaluated based on multiple criteria, including: personal statement, grades, research experience, USMLE scores, letters of recommendation, and extracurricular activities.
Interview Dates
We typically host 3 interview dates per cycle, between November – January. Applicants are encouraged to attend an interview dinner on Friday evening with current residents. Formal interviews take place on Saturdays, and applicants are expected to be on campus until 3PM.
Given the extraordinary set of circumstances due to COVID-19, we are still in the process of determining our interview process for this application cycle. Please check back frequently for the most up-to-date information.
Foreign Applicants
Thomas Jefferson University considers foreign nationals who have graduated from U.S. medical schools for H1b visa status. International medical graduates must be able to obtain an ECFMG certificate and J-1 Visa.
Please email our Residency Coordinator, Michelle Hoffman with any questions.

A final letter of recommendation must be obtained from the referring program director for all residents entering programs at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital after completing some phase of training in another institution.
