Clinical Rotation Sites
The Internal Medicine Residency uses numerous clinical settings throughout the Jefferson Health System to give our house staff the most diverse educational experience. In addition to working in various Thomas Jefferson University affiliated subspecialty practices and local community Internal Medicine practices, house officers will spend time at the following hospitals and facilities.
Thomas Jefferson University Hospital
This 700+ bed acute care hospital provides quaternary care for Philadelphia and the surrounding region. The majority of clinical rotations takes place at this location. Residents rotating here have the opportunity to care for patients in multiple settings, including outpatient clinics, general medicine and subspecialty wards, and medical and cardiac intensive care units. Given its location in Center City Philadelphia, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital serves patients from a wide range of socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds, which provides our residents with a diverse educational experience.
Methodist Hospital
This 200+ bed hospital, located in the heart of South Philadelphia, serves a diverse population that includes a large Italian-American community and a growing number of Southeast Asian immigrants. Residents rotating at Methodist Hospital gain exposure to community medical practice by rotating on the teaching floor service and in the medical intensive care unit. A limited number of ambulatory experiences are also offered here.
Continuity Clinics & Ambulatory Sites
Jefferson Internal Medicine Associates (JIMA) - JIMA continuity clinic provides a rigorous and well-rounded primary care experience. JIMA is primarily staffed by internal medicine residents who are in the primary care track.
Jefferson Hospital Ambulatory Practice (JHAP) - In JHAP continuity clinic residents frequently treat patents with both complex medical conditions and challenging social situations. These patient encounters foster critical thinking and provide rewarding experiences in outpatient medicine.
Jefferson's Women's Primary & Specialty Care - At Jefferson Women's Primary & Specialty Care Clinic residents have the opportunity to provide primary care and medical services geared toward women's health with an emphasis on reproductive health, maternal health, PCOS and hormone replacement therapy.
Additionally, residents have the opportunity to spend their ambulatory block at various primary care clinics within the Philadelphia and New Jersey suburbs. These private practices are affiliated with the Jefferson Health System and serve a more suburban and rural patient population.
