Department Facilities
Most of the department's core laboratories are housed on the 2nd, 3rd, 8th and 9th floors of the Bluemle Life Sciences Building, and on the 2nd and 4th floors of the Jefferson Alumni Hall.
Each floor includes shared darkrooms, cold rooms, an autoclave and a staffed glass-washing facility. In addition, much of the large equipment is shared and is located in common equipment corridors. These resources include high-speed centrifuges, ultracentrifuges, scintillation counters, incubators, shakers, spectrophotometers, and gel imaging systems.
Shared Facilities
The shared research facilities within Thomas Jefferson University provide a rich resource for enhancing the speed of scientific discovery and as well as the training of first-rate biomedical scientists at both the predoctoral and postdoctoral level.
At the present time Thomas Jefferson University in conjunction with the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center operate a number of formal Shared Resources that provide centralized services. Among the resources that are widely used by department members are the cryo-Electron Microscopy core, the genomics and Bioinformatics core, the Flow Cytometry Facility, and the Bioimaging Facility.
Jefferson also operates a variety of other resources including a Biosafety Level-3 (BL-3) Facility and a Laboratory Animal Facility. The Scott Memorial Library has a collection of some 170,000 books and bound journals, and subscribes to more than 2,200 journals in both the basic biomedical science and clinical medicine. The library also makes the online versions of most relevant journals available from all campus computers.
