Welcome Message from our Chief Residents
On behalf of the entire Department of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, welcome and thank you for your interest in our program! We hope to convey to you why we feel Jefferson is an outstanding place to train.
Like many before us, we firmly believe that after leaving this residency program we will have the skills and confidence necessary to be excellent clinicians and consultants in Anesthesiology. As a tertiary care center, we are exposed to a large variety of cases involving medically complex patients. During the clinical anesthesia years, residents receive training in all anesthetic subspecialties. We are fortunate to have a high volume regional anesthesia experience, a free standing pediatrics hospital, a dedicated neuroscience facility, active transplant program (hearts, livers, kidneys, and pancreas), Cardiothoracic ICU led by anesthesiologist-intensivists, and a chronic pain practice, among other clinical services.
Our faculty’s expertise is reflected in their ongoing contribution to research and resident education. Residents have the opportunity to be involved in these scholarly endeavors and frequently present at national conferences. Additionally, there is a strong emphasis on didactics and simulation. We have several sessions each week including didactic lectures, mock oral boards, and simulation to prepare us well for BASIC, ADVANCED, and APPLIED examinations. In addition, faculty mentorship cultivates our experience and growth through residency. Our exceptional training results in competitive fellowship and post-graduate job placement.
Jefferson is perfectly located in Center City, Philadelphia and many of us live within walking distance of the hospital. Outside the hospital, we have the opportunity to explore the great city of Philadelphia which is a hot spot for restaurants, avid sports fans, culture, and history. Resident wellness is a priority and the department has frequent get-togethers with residents, faculty and CRNA staff. Additionally, we come together as a program to celebrate completion of the In Training Exam annually, and we have specific days dedicated to residency class outings. We feel so fortunate for our excellent training and the supportive community at Jefferson.
Thank you for considering Jefferson. Please do not hesitate to contact us at [email protected].
