Nathan Sports Industry Project
In response to a challenge posed by Nathan Sports, an interdisciplinary group of students from the Kanbar College worked together to create a new fashion running jacket for female runners.
Business students worked alongside colleagues from fashion design and engineering to determine the needs in the market of female running jackets. The three disciplines complemented one another’s expertise and knowledge from the original brainstorm through the finished product to create the most informed, marketable, in-demand item possible.
OmniWind Energy Systems – Weight Challenge
OmniWind Energy Systems proposed a design problem to an interdisciplinary team of students in the Kanbar College, including MBA, industrial design and engineering students.The team was challenged to develop a low-cost solution to mount the company's wind turbines directly to a residential rooftop without using heavy weights. The team's proposed solution involves a unique, self-orienting airfoil design that uses the free force of wind to hold the turbine in place.
Top Ram Business Plan Competition
Jefferson students pitched innovative businesses at the first Top Ram business model competition. Top prizes were awarded to a fashion industry management major’s proposal for a U.S.-made apparel brand; two Strategic Design MBA student’s plan for a company making customizable, reusable whiteboard notebooks; and a fashion merchandising and management student’s plan for an on-the-go Pho restaurant. Sponsored by the Blackstone LaunchPad at Thomas Jefferson University, 23 groups entered for the chance practice live-pitching to a judge panel of industry professionals and win cash prizes.
Federal Mogul Industry Challenge
Each year, interdisciplinary groups of students work together to participate in the Federal Mogul Industry Challenge to envision a new product along with a production and business strategy. The annual competition challenges teams of students from business, design and engineering disciplines to bring their diverse skills together to brainstorm and develop a new product using Quietshield noise suppression material introduced by Federal Mogul. In the past, winning teams have created consumer products, found various industrial applications and more.
