PDAPS was created with funding from the National Institute on Drug Abuse to track key state laws related to prescription drug abuse. The Policy Surveillance Program - A LawAtlas Project
LawAtlas.org includes datasets produced through funding from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the World Health Organization, Pew Charitable Trusts, the Arnold Foundation, Trust for America’s Health, the Hopewell Fund, National League of Cities, and others. Data on LawAtlas.org are used by researchers, policymakers, advocates, and others, and have been cited by media and in scholarly work more than 100 times since 2014.
Monitoring the Future
Since 1975, the MTF survey has measured drug and alcohol use and related attitudes among adolescent students nationwide. Survey participants report their drug use behaviors across three time periods: lifetime, past year, and past month.

National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH)
NSDUH measures:
- Use of illegal drugs, prescription drugs, alcohol, and tobacco, and misuse of prescription drugs.
- Substance use disorder and substance use treatment, major depressive episodes, and depression care.
- Serious psychological distress, mental illness, and mental healthcare.
The data provide estimates of substance use and mental illness at the national, state, and substate levels. NSDUH data also help to identify the extent of substance use and mental illness among different subgroups, estimate trends over time, and determine the need for treatment services.
Pennsylvania Health Care Cost Containment Council (PHC4)
The council collects inpatient hospital discharge and ambulatory/outpatient procedure records from hospitals and freestanding ambulatory surgery centers in Pennsylvania. These data, which include hospital charge and treatment information as well as other financial data, are collected on a quarterly basis and then verified by PHC4 staff. The council also collects data from managed care plans on a voluntary basis.
