Overview

Our mission is to promote midwifery through education, practice, advocacy, and research to improve lives.

  • Our faculty exemplify the midwifery beliefs of caring, self-determination and involvement.
  • Our active learning strategies support a rigorous graduate education based on depth of discussion in live seminars and on-line forums.
  • As an adult learner you take charge of your education through online learning, with our guidance and support.
  • We invite you to explore the website or speak with an admissions representative by calling 215-951-2800 to learn more about our programs.

The MS in Midwifery program begins with on-campus orientation to build a community of engaged learners and faculty. The curriculum integrates online study and simulation with hands-on clinical practice on campus and in your community. You will learn the science of midwifery through readings, seminar discussions, problem-based learning tutorials, writing assignments, simulated clinical, project-based service learning, quizzes, case studies, peer reviews, and examinations. You will learn the art of midwifery through hands-on practice during clinical placements under the direction of a qualified midwife preceptor. Additionally, students have the option to undertake an inter-professional global health experience.

Students will attend two on-campus intensives to practice hand skills, engage in clinical reasoning and critical reflection, and have time to work together with classmates and faculty. Upon graduation, you will be eligible to sit for the national examination of the American Midwifery Certification Board to earn the credential CNM or CM.

Synchronous Online Sections

Students and faculty “meet” in online video conferences for presentations, discussions about academic content, and the art and science of midwifery practice. You will engage in online synchronous sessions that include both academic and clinical content using mastery sessions, problem based learning, virtual simulation, case presentations, and student conferences.

Due to VISA restrictions, we are only able to accept U.S. citizens and permanent residents into our program at this time. Foreign-educated Midwives, who are also U.S. permanent residents, are encouraged to apply.
