Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences & Biotechnology

Clinical Practica

Clinical practica are the real-world training aspects of our programs. All Bachelor of Science and Master of Science students have four different placements in clinical and research laboratories at prestigious hospitals, clinics, and laboratories in and outside the tri-state area. Practica may be completed at commercial laboratories, community hospital and medical center laboratories, biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry labs, and academic research labs.

Clinical Opportunities

Laboratory practice in the medical laboratory, cytotechnology, and biotechnology disciplines is a hands-on job requiring a hands-on education. We provide our students with a multitude of opportunities to use the latest high-tech equipment and analytical methods, master a range of laboratory techniques, and experience the routines and rhythms of life in the laboratory.

Students in the Medical Laboratory Sciences & Biotechnology major:

  • May have up to four different practicum experiences – three or four 8-hour days a week in the fall and spring, or five 8-hour days a week in the summer.
  • Have the opportunity to study at one of our 50+ clinical affiliations in the tri-state area and as far as California, including major teaching hospitals, clinics, and laboratories.
  • Have priority clinical opportunities at Jefferson Health System institutions.
  • Assist faculty with basic science and clinical outcomes research.
