The Clinical Year is comprised of eight, five-week supervised clinical rotations. Rotations vary in assignment from Fall through Summer semesters during the clinical year due to preceptor availability. Supervised clinical rotations take place in a wide variety of practice settings and locations throughout the United States to optimize each student’s exposure, experience and training.

The Jefferson - Center City Campus Physician Assistant (PA) Program approves and assigns all supervised clinical rotations sites. Students are permitted to identify and assist in developing rotation sites, but each site must receive approval from the PA Program.

The Department of Health Science & Clinical Practice is a part of a University medical center and health system, giving our students unique access to exceptional facilities and resources.

A 66-seat, 1,605 square foot, state-of-the-art classroom and an additional 2,935 square foot laboratory space within the Dorrance Hamilton Building is dedicated for primary use by the PA program.  

Our PA students will have access to the Dr. Robert & Dorothy Rector Clinical Skills and Simulation Center (RCSSC) for clinical skills instruction and patient simulation. The UCSSC consists of three floors in the Dorrance Hamilton Building, built in 2007, as a state-of-the-art simulation facility.

Our PA students will be instructed in anatomy by professors in the Department of Pathology, Anatomy & Cell Biology at Sidney Kimmel Medical College. In addition to the benefits of experienced and highly-qualified instructors, the students will be completing the laboratory portion of the course in a newly-designed, 32,200 square-foot, multi-room laboratory.

Six dissection rooms are each equipped with high-definition monitors, and at each dissection table are computers loaded with anatomical education and reference software. With educational shifts toward teaching anatomy with simulation, computerized models and pro-section, the Program is fortunate to have access to cadaver dissection resources.

Students have access to experienced clinical faculty and supervised clinical rotation experiences within Jefferson Health and with affiliate systems/hospitals (including Main Line Health and Christiana Care Health System). We provide ample core rotations and a large variety of elective options for students as well.
