Confidentiality of Survey Responses

All survey responses administered by the Office of Assessment and Accreditation (OAA) are kept confidential. Our office practices confidentiality by removing personally identifiable information (i.e., Campus Key) and aggregating survey responses when analyzing and reporting the results. Surveys that garner less than five responses are not reported to mitigate any potential breach of confidentiality. To preserve data integrity, only OAA staff will have access to the responses from the survey. Personally identifiable information may be combined with existing data in Thomas Jefferson University databases for further analysis.

The following outlines exceptions to this practice of confidentiality:

  1. Non-anonymous, non-confidential surveys—although these surveys are rarely conducted, please note that surveys that do not make any promise of confidentiality (either in survey invitation, introduction, or instrument itself) may be subject to practice of pairing survey responses to personally identifiable information.
  2. Comments that reference potential danger, harm, and/or threats to themselves or others—any potentially threatening, alarming or concerning comments will be brought to the attention of university officials, who will review and take appropriate action to address this matter.
  3. Allegations of or reference to discrimination or harassment—any comments that potentially violate or disclose a violation of Thomas Jefferson University’s Community Standards, Code of Conduct or policies regarding equal opportunity, discrimination or harassment, or require legal intervention will be brought to the attention of university officials, who will review and take appropriate action to address this matter.
  4. Disclosures required by law or in response to legal process.

If you would like to report something anonymously, we encourage you to do so here.

If you have any questions about the confidentiality of survey responses, please contact our office at [email protected].
