Sidney Kimmel Medical College
Department of Microbiology & Immunology
Welcome to the Department of Microbiology & Immunology
The vision of our department is to be recognized as a national and international leader in our research and educational programs. Our initiatives include new therapeutic approaches to the treatment of a variety of human diseases, including autoimmunity, infectious diseases, and cancer.
The mission of the Department of Microbiology & Immunology is to advance science with the goal of preventing, treating, and curing disease. We conduct groundbreaking biomedical and clinical research, leading to the discovery and development of treatments for global human health improvement.
Our department focuses on four areas of research and teaching excellence: host-pathogen interactions, immunology of infectious diseases and cancer, lymphocyte biology, and microbial pathogenesis. We participate in the training and education of students in the Masters and PhD Programs of the Jefferson College of Life Sciences, in the Jefferson College of Pharmacy, and in the MD and MD/PhD Program of the Sidney Kimmel Medical College. Through interactions with clinical departments, institutes, and centers at and outside the university, the department aims to translate its discoveries towards the development of novel therapies and diagnostics.
