Public Health Program Director Dr. Rosemary Frasso Recognized with National Teaching Award

Rosemary (Rosie) Frasso, PhD, SM, SM, CPH was recently honored with the F. Marian Bishop Educator of the Year Award at the Association for Prevention Teaching and Research (APTR) 86^th Annual Conference. This award recognizes significant and outstanding contributions to the instruction of students that advances the field of prevention and public health. Dr. Bishop was Chair of the Department of Family & Preventive Medicine at the University of Utah School of Medicine, where she was the first female chair in the history of the medical school. She was a previous past president of APTR.

Dr. Frasso was recognized for her unwavering dedication to advancing public health education and research. Her drive and motivation are rooted in her commitment to help students maximize their experiences and achieve the skills needed to become public health leaders and practitioners. The visionary and creative approach she brings to teaching and research extends beyond Jefferson College of Population Health (JCPH) to international programs. She exemplifies what it is to be a distinguished trail blazer in higher education.

Despite directing a large and complex MPH program while also engaging in significant scholarly endeavors, she consistently prioritizes her role as educator and mentor. Students are always at the center of her work. We are proud of her efforts and are thrilled she is being recognized with this most deserved honor,” states Dr. Billy Oglesby, Humana Dean, Jefferson College of Population Health.

 “I was honored to be chosen for this award, it created a space for me to stop a moment and reflect on my teaching, how I approach learners, and the many ways that while we all try to do our best, we can miss the mark. I am not a perfect educator, and just like those in the classroom, I am always learning,” explains Dr. Frasso.

Dr. Frasso is Director of the JCPH Public Health program and Victor Heiser, MD Professor of Population Health. She is also Director of Mixed Methods Research, Asano-Gonella Center for Medical Education & Health Care at Sidney Kimmel Medical College.
