Research & Clinical Interests

Dr. Anne Bower has extensive international consulting experience with USAID and Peace Corps in agriculture, forestry, and parks management in Africa and the Caribbean and recently completed certification in Medicinal Herbalism at the Maryland University of Integrative Health.  She has several publications on the use of phytotherapy in addressing chronic conditions.  Her M.S. and Ph.D. from University of Florida, School of Forest Resources and Conservation, focused on helping local farmers develop successful alternative food systems in Sierra Leone and Jamaica.  Guiding student researchers, she explores the management practices for endangered and invasive species at local parks and wildlife refuges.  Her current cross-disciplinary research is on the development of textile dyes from invasive plant species. She uses hands-on innovative teaching practices developed from a National Science Foundation project to teach Biodiversity, Ecology, Medicinal Plants, Preventative Medicine, Natural Resource Management, Biology Research I & II and field courses (Yellowstone National Park, Jamaica, Costa Rica, Mexico, Nicaragua).
