At Jefferson, you will be treated as a professional from day one. In our stimulating and supportive environment, you will build a strong foundation in sciences and humanities, preparing you for success in upper-division courses in Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences.
As a student in Pre-Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences (Pre-MIRS) Program, you will complete two years of pre-professional coursework with other pre-medical and health students on Jefferson’s East Falls Campus. In fall of your second year, you will select from five of the concentrations for Year 3. Options for Year 3 concentrations include: MRI, Radiography, Abdomen-extended andOb/Gyn Sonography, Cardiac Sonography, and Vascular Sonograpy. Students who maintain progression criteria are guaranteed to matriculate into the professional phase. Jefferson’s academic advisors and faculty work closely with our students on course selection and academic performance to ensure that each student is on pace to transition into the professional phase of the program.

The Professional Phase
Students who maintain progression criteria are guaranteed to matriculate into the Professional Phase. Students study two concentrations within Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences, one each in Year 3 and Year 4, at the Jefferson - Center City Campus. The Professional Phase Program is full-time in Year 3 and Year 4. Full-time means Monday through Friday, fall, spring, and summer semesters. Students in Year 3 and Year 4 participate in classes, labs, and clinical experiences on a full-time basis during the entire fall, spring, and summer semesters. Students should include travel time to and from classes, labs, and clinical rotations, in addition to study and assignment time during Year 3 and Year 4.
Concentrations prepare students for success in a specific area of technological practice. We recommend that students study the concentration they are most interested in working in during Year 4. The only options for Pre-MIRS Professional Phase for Year 3 concentrations include: MRI, Radiography, Abdomen-extended and Ob/GYN Sonography, Cardiac Sonography, and Vascular Sonography. All pre-professional phase students must attend advisement sessions as scheduled during Year 1 and Year 2.
