Bernie L. Lopez, MD '86, MS '03, Residency '89, CPE, FACEP, FAAEM, FCPP

Bernard Lopez, MD ‘86, MS, is professor and Vice Chair for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College. He serves as Senior Associate Dean of Diversity & Community Engagement at SKMC, and Associate Provost of Diversity and Inclusion at Thomas Jefferson University.

In his current roles, he leads the university’s and the medical college’s diversity, equity and inclusion strategic efforts for students, resident physicians and faculty.  Additionally, he is involved in curricular activities focused on student and resident education and faculty development in the areas of health equity and social determinants of health. 

Dr. Lopez graduated from the Sidney Kimmel Medical College in 1986 and completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in 1989. He practiced in the community for three years before returning to Jefferson in 1992 to practice academic Emergency Medicine. In 2003 he received a Master of Science degree in Pharmacology from the Jefferson College of Graduate Studies. In the Department of Emergency Medicine, he has had numerous roles such as Director for Clinical Research, Residency Program Director, Vice Chair of Academic Affairs, and Executive Vice Chair.
